Youngstown Area Community Concert Band
Friends and followers of the YACCB,
Thank you for your continued support of the YACCB, and for following us on our website. I want to give you a little preview of what music you will hear on our summer schedule for 2018. Our theme this year is simply "Water". Many of my band members wondered how we could put together concerts with that kind of theme. Well, as you will see, we've got a lot of material and quite a variety of music for your listening pleasure this year.
We will be performing music about rivers, such as Shenandoah and the Platt River. Other river-like music is not about a specific river, but about what a moving body of water can provide in the way of inspiration and beauty, such as a wonderful piece called River Trail Expedition.
One of my favorites is a "Count Basie-like" feel of a spiritual called Deep River. Others include music that is just associated with water, such as a medley of Beach Boys Hits, Sousa's march Manhattan Beach and a John Williams piece from Steven Spielberg's comedy "1941", called the March from 1941. A Broadway hit called "Showboat" features the popular song "Old Man River". Another movie soundtrack that will be performed is "Pearl Harbor". And, a very entertaining piece about a steamboat race (true story) that took place on the Mississippi River, titled The Great Steamboat Race.
Several soloists will be featured, both vocal and instrumental, in the following; Moon River, My Heart Will Go On from "Titanic", Beautiful Colorado and a piece featuring a narration to commemorate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. called Until Justice Rolls Down Like Waters. A few of our concerts that take place around the 4th of July will also feature patriotic music, highlighting World War II and our Armed Forces.
We hope to see you and many of your friends at one or many of our concerts around the Mahoning Valley this summer.
Thank you for reading and listening!
Joseph Pellegrini, Conductor
